Sustainable Construction Policy

The Land Bank has recently adopted a Sustainable Construction Policy that will guide renovation and new construction projects. In recognizing that energy costs impose a disproportionate burden on low and moderate income families, who spend a larger portion of their income on fuel, this policy ensures optimal energy efficiency, which makes affordable housing more affordable for residents as energy bills are reduced by 30-50% for homes built to a high energy efficiency standard.

There are also significant public health benefits to building to high efficiency standards and using verified green building materials and practices, as documented by the New York State Department of Health, the US Department of Energy (DOE), the US Environmental Protection Agency, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Harvard’s T. H. Chan School of Public Health, the International Living Future Institute, and the Healthy Buildings Network, among others.

Click the link below to read the full policy, and please contact us with any questions or suggestions, as we review and update this policy annually.
